Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

How do I find a flat?

Please contact the Studentenwerk directly if you have any questions about LIVING. There is a database in which you can register and receive offers of accommodation this way. The Niedersächsische Studienkolleg is not able to help you find accommodation. You can find more information and tips on the subject of finding accommodation:

Where can I travel with the semester ticket (areas of validity)?

The semester ticket allows you to travel free of charge within Lower Saxony. Nevertheless, it is very important that you find out exactly which trains and which buses you can use free of charge. You can find information on the area of validity of the semester ticket on the website of the ASTA Hannover:

The Niedersächsische Studienkolleg belongs to the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) and therefore participants in courses at the college are also considered university members. Participants can apply for places at the crèches. As demand is very high, you should also apply to public places in the city of Hanover and to parent initiatives. You can find more information here:

What do I do with my child/children in a "care emergency"?

Emergency care at Leibniz Kids is available free of charge to all members of the university for a maximum of 10 days per child per year. After consultation, up to 20 days are possible in exceptional cases. Fluxx emergency childcare is offered by the City of Hannover. With this emergency care, it is usually the case that a caregiver looks after the child at home in the familiar environment. Normally, this service costs 5€ per hour. Through a cooperation with the LUH, members of the university only pay 3€ per hour.

What is the difference between kollegiats and students?

The students at the Studienkolleg are not students in the sense of the NHG, but according to the regulations of the Studienkolleg (see Leibniz Universität Hannover Bulletin 17/2015 of 18.9.2015, p. 193-196, resolution of the Presidential Board of the University, regulations approved by the Ministry of Science and Culture), they are only equal to students in terms of higher education law. Refugees at the Studienkolleg can therefore not receive student BaFöG and are dependent on further assistance to support themselves.

What does the "Regulations of the Studienkolleg" mean?

The Studienkolleg regulations specify, for example, WHO, WHY and HOW students are prepared for the assessment test at the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg.
